Fire Hazards & Risk Management
Fire incidents continue to pose significant threats to human life, critical infrastructure, economic assets, and the environment across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. Rapid urbanization, increasing building densities, complex industrial processes, and climate-related hazards have intensified the need for effective fire risk management. While advances in building technologies and fire protection systems have improved safety, challenges remain in ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining preparedness, and promoting a culture of fire prevention.
This plenary session provides a multidisciplinary platform for policymakers, fire professionals, urban planners, architects, engineers, industry experts, researchers, and emergency responders to discuss emerging fire risks, innovative prevention measures, and regulatory frameworks. The session will emphasize integrating fire safety into building design, urban planning, disaster risk reduction, and climate resilience initiatives. Special attention will be given to implementing the National Building Code (NBC) of India, state building by-laws, fire safety regulations, and international best practices to strengthen fire-resilient communities.
Mental Health & Workplace Safety
Occupational safety extends beyond physical injuries to include mental health, fatigue, stress, and burnout, which can impair judgment, reduce awareness, increase accidents, and affect long-term health and productivity.
High-risk sectors such as emergency services, disaster management, healthcare, construction, transportation, and critical infrastructure face increased psychosocial risks due to long working hours, trauma exposure, demanding environments, and climate-related emergencies.
This panel discussion explores strategies to identify and manage workplace psychosocial risks by strengthening psychological safety, leadership, well-being, fatigue management, and burnout prevention. It will also highlight policies, best practices, and interventions that integrate mental health into Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) systems, helping organizations build healthier, safer, and more resilient workforces.
Reducing Risk, Saving Lives: Advancing Disaster Resilience
The increasing frequency and intensity of natural and human-induced disasters, driven by climate change, rapid urbanization, environmental degradation, and expanding infrastructure, underscore the urgent need to shift from reactive disaster response to proactive disaster risk reduction (DRR). Investing in resilience saves lives, protects livelihoods, and safeguards economic development, critical infrastructure, and environmental sustainability.
Aligned with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015–2030), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, this plenary session explores integrating disaster risk reduction into development planning to strengthen resilience at national, state, and local levels. It brings together policymakers, disaster management authorities, international organizations, researchers, development agencies, industry leaders, and practitioners to discuss reducing vulnerabilities, strengthening institutional capacities, and preparedness.
The session highlights collaborative governance, science-based decision-making, technological innovation, and community engagement to build resilient societies that anticipate, withstand, and recover from disasters.
Climate Resilience for Safer Communities
Climate change is reshaping the risk landscape of cities and communities. Rising temperatures, extreme rainfall, floods, droughts, heatwaves, sea-level rise, and other climate hazards are placing increasing pressure on urban infrastructure, ecosystems, public health, and local economies. As urban populations grow, developing climate-resilient cities that can anticipate, adapt to, and recover from climate-related shocks while ensuring sustainable development has become essential.
This plenary session will examine how climate resilience can be integrated into urban planning, infrastructure, governance, and community engagement. It will highlight the role of smart cities, nature-based solutions, digital technologies, and risk-informed planning in creating adaptive, inclusive, and sustainable communities.
Aligned with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015–2030), the Paris Agreement, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 11 & 13), and India’s Smart Cities Mission, this session brings together policymakers, urban planners, climate scientists, engineers, disaster management professionals, technology experts, industry leaders, and development partners to explore innovative approaches for strengthening urban climate resilience.

This session explores how governments, planners, policymakers, development agencies, and the private sector can integrate DRR across infrastructure, housing, health, education, agriculture, and urban development. It will also highlight risk-informed planning, resilient infrastructure, ecosystem protection, climate adaptation, innovative financing, governance, and global best practices for building safer, more resilient, and sustainable communities.
Nature-Based Solutions for Risk Reduction & Resilience
Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) harness the power of ecosystems to reduce disaster risks, strengthen climate resilience, and support sustainable development. Healthy forests, wetlands, mangroves, rivers, and urban green spaces help mitigate floods, landslides, heatwaves, and coastal erosion while delivering environmental, social, and economic benefits.
This session explores how integrating Nature-Based Solutions into disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, and urban planning can enhance community resilience, protect critical infrastructure, and support sustainable development. It will highlight innovative policies, financing mechanisms, and successful case studies that demonstrate the value of working with nature to build safer and more resilient communities.
The discussion will also examine the role of green infrastructure, biodiversity, ecosystem restoration, community participation, and indigenous knowledge in strengthening resilience. It will showcase practical approaches for integrating NbS into urban planning, infrastructure development, and climate adaptation policies to create sustainable and disaster-resilient communities.
